At Yale, there are many places where you can worship, seek pastoral guidance and care, and participate in faith-based and spiritual communities.

Battell Chapel

Battell Chapel, located at the corner of College and Elm Streets, is the home of the University Church in Yale and is also open to Yale and community groups for occasional events. Worship is every Sunday at 10:30 a.m., and all are welcome to attend.

Buddhist Shrine at Harkness Chapel

The Buddhist Shrine at Harkness Chapel is on the first floor of Harkness Tower in Branford College and is open from Sunday through Thursday, 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Students are invited to meditate, chant, and make offerings at the Chapel, provided that there is no formal practice or dharma talk scheduled. Weekly group meditation is offered on Thursdays at 7:00 p.m.

Chaplain’s Office

The Chaplain’s Office is committed to complementing the university in its task of educating students and expanding the boundaries of human knowledge. The office fosters respect and mutual understanding among people of different faiths and cultures as well as actively promoting dialogue within the university. It seeks to bridge classroom and co-curricular discussion of religious, ethical and spiritual topics, facilitate the presence of a wide variety of religious resources and groups on campus, and encourage dialogue and partnership between religious groups and individuals for the common good. The Chaplain’s Office supports many groups of students working to encourage meaningful conversation across boundaries, including The InterFaith Forum at Yale and the Chaplaincy Fellows. The office also hosts regular study breaks in the basement of Bingham Hall, interfaith service projects, lectures, discussions, celebrations and much more.

Cookies and Coloring with the Chaplain

Cookies and Coloring with the Chaplain is an opportunity to take a study break, relax, and join in conversation with Chaplain Sharon Kugler and others for a relaxing hour of coloring (and snacking). Cookies & Coloring takes place once a week in Breathing Space in the basement of Welch C.

Dwight Chapel

Dwight Chapel is located in Dwight Hall on Old Campus and is used for University Church in Yale’s Wednesday Prayer, the Episcopal Church at Yale’s worship services, International Church at Yale’s worship service, and Jummah prayers on Fridays.

Hindu Prayer Room

The Hindu Prayer Room is located in the basement of Bingham Hall on Old Campus. For access to the space, please sign out a key at the Chaplain’s Office. The Hindu Student’s Council holds weekly puja on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m.

Joseph Slifka Center for Jewish Life at Yale

A “nexus for Jewish Life on the Yale campus,” the Slifka Center supports and promotes Jewish life at Yale through religious and spiritual services and support, dining, arts and culture, classes, service opportunities, programming, and more. Open to all Yale College and graduate and professional students, the Center is home to many spaces, including a holy space, Kosher Kitchen, yoga and krav maga studio, reading room and library, concert space, and more.

Luther House at Yale

Luther House is a community of college and graduate students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members who worship, study, pray, and serve the community. Guided by Lutheran understandings, the house is a place for communal bible study, meals, and worship and is also home to the Social Justice Community @ Yale, a residential community of students who commit to serving local organizations.

Musallah

Musalla, a dedicated Muslim sacred space, is located in the basement of Bingham Hall on Old Campus. The room is accessible 24/7 with swipe access and a key.  Please email your netID to Chaplain Omer Bajwa for swipe access to Bingham Hall, and please go to Breathing Space (in Welch C) to obtain a key from Gale Iannone.

Saint Thomas More Chapel at Yale

Saint Thomas More Chapel and Center at Yale offers the Catholic community at Yale a place for worship and service. In addition to regular services, the Chapel hosts Small Church Communities, in which participants discuss the readings for the upcoming Sunday service. In the Chapel’s Men’s and Women’s Spirituality Groups, graduate students are invited to share and discuss spirituality with fellow students. The Chapel also offers pastoral counseling, religious education for children, and other church services, including marriage ceremonies. The Thomas E. Golden Jr. Center at Saint Thomas More includes a round meditation room.

Yale Religious Ministries

Yale Religious Ministries (YRM), convened and supported by the Chaplain’s Office, is a university council of professional clergy and laypersons representing the more than 25 religious and spiritual traditions that constitute an important part of Yale’s diversity. These advisors and their groups provide valuable spiritual, moral and cultural support to Yale students. A list of members can be found at the link below.

University Church in Yale

The University Church in Yale is a Christian congregation of Yale students, faculty, staff, and New Haven community members. Services are held in Battell Chapel every Sunday at 10:30 a.m., and all are welcome.
